Curry, who is sidelined with a knee injury, spoke with confidence about his team. The MRI showed no structural damage, but he will be re-evaluated in 10 days. While he recovers, the Warriors are trying to stay in the playoff picture without their leader on the floor.
Still, Curry is not focused on the noise around their up-and-down season. His message was about belief and matchups.
"This has been such a unique year, but as long as we can find our way into a playoff series, we feel like we are a tough out for anybody at the top of the West," said Curry in an interview with ESPN. "With Porzingis here, hopefully, he's healthy and able to be out there consistently because we know what he's capable of doing."
Golden State currently holds the eighth seed with a 29–27 record. They are fighting to avoid the Play-In Tournament, and every win matters from this point on.
Curry pointed to the addition of Kristaps Porzingis as a key factor. The 30-year-old big man recently joined the Warriors from the Atlanta Hawks and made his debut against the Boston Celtics.
Porzingis finished with 12 points on 5 of 9 shooting in 17 minutes off the bench. He gave the Warriors spacing with his outside shot and size inside the paint. For Curry, that skill set could be important in a playoff series, where matchups and half-court execution decide games.
Golden State has dealt with injuries all season. Jimmy Butler is out for the rest of the year with a knee injury, which puts even more pressure on the rotation.
