Liverpool plot Tottenham raid for 20-year-old who was voted club’s Player of the Season last…

Tottenham talent emerges as a shock target for Liverpool.

Tottenham Hotspur have focused on recruiting highly-rated young talents from Europe in recent years. The North London outfit have brought in several promising prospects such as Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray as part of their long-term plan.

To everyone’s surprise, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray emerged as two of the club’s standout performers during what turned out to be a disappointing 2024/25 domestic campaign for Spurs, leading to Ange Postecoglou’s sacking. Lucas Bergvall, in particular, however, has struggled to consistently replicate that form this season, partly due to recently-sacked Thomas Frank not using him appropriately.

During his eight-month stay at the club, Frank constantly deployed Bergvall either as an advanced midfielder or out wide. The decision did not bear fruit, as the 20-year-old struggled to make a meaningful impact for his side. The Sweden international, who was voted Players’ Player of the Year following a stellar debut campaign, was viewed more as a squad option by Frank.

He has made 17 Premier League appearances this season, of which only 10 have come as a starter. Currently sidelined with an ankle ligament injury, Bergvall, though, has not been short of suitors.

Liverpool eye Lucas Bergvall move

As per a recent revelation by reputed journalist David Ornstein, Tottenham rejected enquiries from Premier League rivals Chelsea and Aston Villa for Bergvall in January. Spurs had no intention to let the central midfielder leave during the winter transfer window, before he got injured in a Champions League outing against Borussia Dortmund.

Now, according to a report from TEAMtalk, Liverpool are planning a summer raid on Tottenham for Bergvall. The Reds are long-term admirers of the youngster and have been tracking his progress for quite some time, while Aston Villa could revive their interest in the summer.

The Lilywhites view Bergvall as one of the top talents in Europe and have made their stance clear that he is not for sale. However, Liverpool and Aston Villa could get encouragement to test Tottenham’s resolve depending on where they finish in the table this season, or the direction they go with their next permanent head coach.

Having quickly become a key player for the North Londoners, it is no surprise that the Swedish international is now coveted by some top clubs. Spurs are not willing to listen to offers for Bergvall as they see him as part of their long-term plans. They simply cannot afford to lose an elite prospect like him amid the chaos surrounding the club.

This demonstrates the faith the Hotspur Way chiefs have in Bergvall, viewing him as a valuable asset for now and in the long run.
