The title race took another dramatic twist when Arsenal dropped points against bottom-of-the-table Wolves on Wednesday night, and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson says Man City could take full advantage over their next two fixtures.

Assessing the teams’ upcoming matches, Merson said that the Gunners have much tougher opponents in comparison to Pep Guardiola’s side:

“I always look at the next two games. Arsenal have got Chelsea and Tottenham, two very difficult games.”

“More so, no disrespect to Newcastle and Leeds, but you take Newcastle and Leeds over Arsenal’s games.”

There are no easy opponents in the Premier League

While Merson is correct to point out that the Cityzens’ fixtures are more straightforward on paper, nothing can be taken for granted.

Guardiola’s men face Newcastle at home on Saturday. The Magpies have not been great away from St James’ Park, but they did beat Qarabag 6-1 in Azerbaijan midweek. You also have to consider that City have dropped points to the likes of Tottenham, Brighton and Chelsea at the Etihad already this season.

The away trip to Leeds has its own pitfalls. Despite sitting in 15th place, Daniel Farke’s team have only lost three of their 13 matches at Elland Road so far this campaign.

Arsenal’s slip-up gives Man City extra motivation

While the Gunners technically extended their lead at the top to five points, that will be reduced to only two if City do beat Newcastle on Saturday night. If you are attending the game and want to buy a Man City scarf, why not get one from the Puma store?

With the North London derby taking place a day later, City’s title rivals will be under big pressure heading into that hotly-constested fixture. It will also be Igor Tudor’s first match in charge of Spurs, with the Croatian having been confirmed as Thomas Frank’s replacement earlier this week.
