'Liverpool made a serious enquiry'- Slot wanted to sign 25 y/o Premier League star but was rebuffed

Liverpool are in need of a new right back despite signing Jeremie Frimpong in the summer and it appears they wanted to sign a Premier League star in the January transfer window.

While all criticism of Liverpool is valid this season, there have been some major factors that are out of their control.

Arne Slot’s tactics have been questionable for most of the campaign but the Dutch manager cannot be blamed for Liverpool’s injury crisis, particularly at right back.

First, Jeremie Frimpong picked up a knock and was out for a few weeks, then Conor Bradley. The latter then picked up a more serious injury against Arsenal, which required surgery to his knee, effectively ruling him out for the rest of the campaign.

Then, Dominik Szoboszlai was suspended for a red card he picked up while playing at right back against Manchester City.

Finally, Wataru Endo suffered a serious injury playing at right back against Sunderland.

So far, only Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch have avoided injury or suspension while playing at right back this season.

Liverpool made a formal enquiry over signing Leeds United’s Jayden Bogle in January

According to a report from journalist Dave Davis speaking on the Anfield Index’s Transfer Show, Liverpool contacted Leeds about Bogle’s availability in the January transfer window.

Davis said: “This is a weird one, and my gut is telling me that Liverpool don’t revisit this, but Liverpool did make a serious enquiry for Jayden Bogle.

“Does it mean that they will go back for him in the summer? We don’t know, but I’m struggling to see it.”

Ultimately, Liverpool didn’t sign Bogle and there is a chance they don’t revisit their interest in the 25-year-old as Davis said, but it would be prudent for the Reds to sign a new right back in the summer.

Now, speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, Bogle was asked whether or not it’s flattering to be a person of interest to the Premier League big six.

Bogle replied: “No, like I said, I’m just solely focused on what we’re doing this season and the goals we’ve got to achieve.”
