Barcelona defender responds to Milan links and Maldini comparison: “That’s what they’re saying”

Barcelona defender Gerard Martin has seemingly confirmed that he is not interesting in joining AC Milan in the summer.

The rumours that Milan are considering a move for Martin ahead of the summer, given their desire to sign a versatile centre-back who has experience playing for a top club at a top level, which the 23-year-old does.

These reports were then backed up by Matteo Moretto, who said earlier in the week that the Rossoneri are interested in signing Martin in the summer transfer window. However, Mundo Deportivo then insisted the the player himself has no interest in leaving Barcelona.

Martin has given an interview to TV3 in which he was asked about the idea of joining El Clasico rivals Real Madrid but also Milan given the links. Barca Blaugranes have relayed his responses.

Could you ever join Real Madrid?

“Not in a million years! There are some things that money can’t buy.”

What about Milan?

“That’s what they’re saying. I haven’t heard anything of the sort. I’m very happy here and I have no intention of leaving.”

What do you think of your Gerard Maldini nickname?

“It’s quite funny. My team-mates call me Maldini. I take it well and am happy to be performing at a good level as a centre-back to be named like that.”
