The Seahawks face a decision on Rashid Shaheed's future.

The Seattle Seahawks have several notable players heading to NFL free agency, and the franchise may make the difficult decision to let some key veterans walk. One name to watch is versatile playmaker Rashid Shaheed.

Seattle traded for Shaheed ahead of the deadline, a move that proved prudent amid the team’s Super Bowl run. Shaheed had multiple return touchdowns and was also a deep threat for Sam Darnold.

Now, Shaheed heads to NFL free agency, and not everyone is convinced Seattle will be able to re-sign the receiver. Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton outlined a “dream” trade target for every NFL team.

The analyst points to Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Darnell Mooney as a potential Seahawks’ replacement for Shaheed. It remains to be seen what Mooney’s price would be, but it is hard to imagine Seattle needing to give up much more than a future day-three pick in a deal.

Let’s explore the latest Seahawks rumors.

Seahawks Rumors: NFL Trade Pitch Has Seattle Replace Rashid Shaheed With Falcons WR Darnell Mooney

Part of the reason why Seattle may be able to land Mooney for cheap is the wideout’s contract. Mooney is heading into the final season of a three-year, $39 million deal.

The veteran is slated to have an $18.4 million cap hit, per Spotrac, that the Falcons may prefer not to absorb.

“The Seattle Seahawks will likely lose Rashid Shaheed in free agency,” Moton wrote in a February 17, 2026, story titled, “Dream Offseason Trade Scenario for Every NFL Team.” “They acquired him before the trade deadline in a logical move because of his familiarity with Klint Kubiak’s offense. As Kubiak moves on to be the Las Vegas Raiders head coach, Shaheed could follow him there.

“… Seattle should inquire about Darnell Mooney, who averaged a career-high 15.5 yards per reception in 2024. In 2021, Mooney eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards with the Chicago Bears. He’s not a lead wideout, but the 28-year-old doesn’t have to be that alongside rising star receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Mooney would fit into a role as a field-stretcher who complements possession wideout Cooper Kupp.”

Verdict: The Seahawks Likely Prefer to Re-Sign Rashid Shaheed Over Trading for Darnell Mooney

While this is an intriguing trade pitch, the Seahawks would be wise to prioritize re-signing Shaheed over trading for Mooney. The Falcons wideout has nearly an $11 million salary in 2026, and it is hard to imagine Shaheed’s price being much more than this.

Mooney is coming off a career-low 443 receiving yards and one touchdown in 15 starts for Atlanta last season. For context, Spotrac projects Shaheed’s market value to be a three-year, $42.3 million contract ahead of NFL free agency.

Shaheed has expressed a desire to remain in Seattle, but the outcome will likely depend on how much the Seahawks are willing to spend.

“Absolutely, absolutely, yeah,” Shaheed told NFL Network’s “The Insiders” during a February 18, interview. “Conversations are definitely going to be heating up towards March. But you know, I would love to come back. I loved my experience here, I’m loving the Pacific Northwest, and obviously the organization is second to none.

“I kind of want to run it back. We just won the Super Bowl, so, you know, why not?”
