Steelers insider makes troubling omission on list of Pittsburgh's free-agent targets

There is no debating that the [Pittsburgh Steelers](https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers) need to make at least a pair of significant additions at wide receiver this offseason.

The Steelers have sported arguably the worst wide receivers room in the NFL for two straight seasons and there is no question that has negatively impacted the team's offense.

While the expectation is the Steelers will target receiver this offseason, whether that be via trade, free agency and/or the draft, one team insider left the position out of his list of likely free-agent targets for Pittsburgh.

"DT, OG, CB," the [Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac](https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2026/02/19/nfl-news-pittsburgh-draft-aaron-rodgers-mike-mccarthy/stories/202602190060) wrote when asked what positions the Steelers will target in free agency.

All three of those positions make sense for the Steelers to target.

Pittsburgh has Isaac Seumalo set to be a free agent and we're not so sure Mason McCormick is locked in as the long-term solution at the other guard spot.

Along the defensive line, Cam Heyward isn't getting any younger and it would be ideal for the Steelers to add more depth and a future running mate for Derrick Harmon.

At cornerback, the Steelers don't have a surefire starting solution opposite Joey Porter Jr., and slot cornerback is another question mark, as is depth.

But wide receiver is just as big of a need as those three and Pittsburgh should be very aggressive when it comes to adding to the position.

Unfortunately, general manager Omar Khan doesn't have a good history when it comes to adding at the position, but hopefully a new offensive-minded coach in Mike McCarthy will make him more aggressive this time around.

What does an ideal offseason at wide receiver look like for Pittsburgh?

At the very least, we would love to see the Steelers add an adequate veteran No. 2 behind DK Metcalf, whether that be through trade or free agency, along with a younger pass-catcher in one of the first two days of the 2026 NFL draft.

That approach would set the Steelers up for both 2026 and beyond.
