Teddy Sheringham Says 137 G/A West Ham Star Could“Leave”If Nightmare Scenario Comes True

Former West Ham striker Teddy Sheringham says he doesn’t anticipate captain Jarrod Bowen sticking around if the Hammers are relegated.

The 29-year-old has been the club’s best player for several years, having scored a combined 137 goals and assists since his arrival from Hull City at the start of 2020.

However, Sheringham thinks both the player and the club would be willing to part ways if Nuno Espirito Santo’s men don’t avoid the drop:

“I think that Jarrod Bowen would likely leave West Ham if the club went down. It makes sense for both parties. West Ham would probably want to cash in on him; they could get good money, and he would probably want to keep playing at the top level.”

Bowen’s exit isn’t inevitable

Even if the worst-case scenario occurs and West Ham do suffer relegation, there is a chance that the captain will stay at the London Stadium.

While Bowen won’t be short of suitors, the club are unlikely to receive massive sums from a potential sale due to his age. He turned 29 back in December, which means the likes of Liverpool (who were keen on the player in the past) have probably moved on to younger targets.

If the Irons don’t receive proposals which they believe are commensurate with Bowen’s value, they would probably try to keep hold of him.

What are the odds of West Ham avoiding relegation?

Statisticians Opta believe Nuno’s team have a 72.57% chance of going down, which is not particularly good odds, especially when you compare that percentage to other teams.

Nottingham Forest are only three points above them in the table, but the Tricky Trees are only given a 17.74% chance of being relegated, while the percentage is even lower for Leeds (4.04%) and Tottenham (3.79%).
