Newcastle United’s expected £43m change v Manchester City - Eddie Howe’s predicted XI

Newcastle United latest news: Eddie Howe’s predicted Newcastle United starting XI v Manchester City.

The Magpies head to Manchester just three days after a long trip to Azerbaijan. Howe’s side left Baku with their Champions League progression all-but secured after a 6-1 win - but what impact would that match and the travelling have had on his squad?

Will he opt to rotate his starting XI for the clash with Pep Guardiola’s side? Or will he stick with the majority of those that started in midweek with the view of rotating in the return leg?

Here, we take a look at the Newcastle United starting XI that Howe could name for his side’s clash with Manchester City this weekend. Do you agree with our picks? Follow us on our social media channels and let us know your thoughts there:

Newcastle United predicted XI v Manchester City

Nick Pope

Pope will be bitterly disappointed to not leave Azerbaijan with a clean sheet. The Magpies have kept just two clean sheets in their last 13 matches in all competitions.

Kieran Trippier

Trippier has been in fine form of late and whilst he will likely be due a rest when Lewis Miley returns from injury, or possibly even on Tuesday night against Qarabag, he will almost certainly be asked to start again at the Etihad Stadium.

Malick Thiaw

Thiaw netted another goal on Wednesday night as he continued his impressive form in front of goal. He will have to be at his best defensively this weekend, though, against a fearsome Manchester City attack.

Dan Burn

Erling Haaland does not enjoy a good goal scoring record against Newcastle United and Burn will be desperate to preserve that on Saturday night.

Lewis Hall

Hall’s work defensively and in attack will be a weapon for the Magpies this weekend. If he is on form, then they have a chance of upsetting the odds.

Jacob Ramsey

Ramsey was given a rest in midweek amid a great run of recent performances. Hopefully he can impress again at the Etihad Stadium this weekend.

Sandro Tonali

Tonali will be the man Newcastle United look to to run the midfield in the continued absence of Bruno Guimaraes. He opened his goalscoring account last weekend and will be desperate to add another at the Etihad Stadium.

Nick Woltemade

Woltemade has enjoyed a mini-resurgence in recent times as he adopts a midfield role. The German international has impressed in the middle of the park and could be utilised in that role this weekend.

Anthony Elanga

Elanga netted his first, and so far only, Newcastle United goal on their last trip to the Etihad Stadium. He was fairly quiet in midweek, though, as those around him took centre stage.

Anthony Gordon

Four goals on Wednesday night will give Gordon’s confidence a major boost ahead of Saturday night’s game. The City defence will be worried about him this weekend, there is no doubt about that.

Harvey Barnes

Barnes netted a brace at St James’ Park in the reverse fixture back in November. Guardiola and his team won’t want him to get too many chances in-front of goal on Saturday night.
