This Dolphins trade pitch would see the team swing a deal with the Seahawks to land Jalen Milroe as their replacement for Tua Tagovailoa
The Miami Dolphins have been perhaps the busiest team across the NFL early this offseason. The team has completely revamped both its front office and coaching staff, and now, this new regime has begun moving on from some players who aren’t part of the team’s future plans. One guy who is still in town, at least for the time being, though, is embattled quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
After he was benched late in the 2025 campaign, reports indicate that Miami is going to move on from Tagovailoa this offseason. Regardless of whether the team releases Tagovailoa or trades him, it’d be a shock if he’s still in town by the time Week 1 rolls around. Assuming Tagovailoa does end up being on the move, though, a new quarterback would need to be brought to town, with Seattle Seahawks‘ rookie Jalen Milroe recently being floated as a potential option.
Dolphins Trade Proposal Sees Them Land Jalen Milroe in Deal with Seahawks
For a point in time, it looked like Tagovailoa was going to be the Dolphins’ long-term answer at the quarterback position. Instead, he has completely fallen apart over the past two seasons, and with a new regime in town, it seems like the perfect time to move on from him. Regardless of whether Tagovailoa is traded or released, the Dolphins are going to have to eat a massive amount of money, thanks to the setup of Tagovailoa’s four-year, $212.5 million contract.
Miami’s cap situation is going to make it difficult for them to find a proper replacement for Tagovailoa, as they are going to need someone on a cheap contract. It could turn to Quinn Ewers again after he filled in for Tagovailoa late in the 2025 campaign, but he didn’t exactly do much to indicate he’d be an upgrade over the southpaw slinger.
The Dolphins could pursue a guy like Green Bay Packers backup quarterback Malik Willis, but he’s likely going to be out of their price range in free agency. A more feasible option could see them trade for Milroe, who was selected in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. With Sam Darnold leading Seattle to a Super Bowl championship, Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report has urged Miami to send a third-round pick in the 2026 draft to the Seahawks in exchange for Milroe.
“The Dolphins are starting over with new head coach Jeff Hafley and general manager Jon Eric-Sullivan. One of the first questions they’ll have to answer is what to do at quarterback,” Ballentine wrote. “The Seahawks’ success with Sam Darnold this season leaves an unclear path to playing time for Jalen Milroe … The more intriguing path (for the Dolphins) might be to offer up their third-round pick to replace the third-rounder the Seahawks spent on Milroe in last year’s draft.”
Should the Dolphins Trade for Jalen Milroe?

Milroe spent last season sitting behind Darnold, and again, it seems unlikely the team will be moving on from him anytime soon. The former Alabama Crimson Tide star took the field in just three games, and he didn’t throw a single pass, with his only stats of note seeing him pick up four yards on three rushing attempts.
In college, Milroe flashed the potential of becoming a solid dual-threat quarterback in the NFL, but it appears unlikely he will get much of an opportunity to earn snaps in Seattle. If Miami were to give Seattle a third-round pick in this year’s draft, that could convince the Seahawks to move off of Milroe. In theory, this is a solid deal for the Dolphins, but even if they were to pull it off, they’d still have to figure out what to do with Tagovailoa moving forward.
