The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a disappointing year. After a stretch in which the Chiefs made three consecutive Super Bowls, winning two of them, Kansas City failed to make the playoffs in 2025. Even before two-time MVP QB Patrick Mahomes tore two ligaments in his knee, prematurely ending his season, the Chiefs were hovering around a .500 record as they failed to close out the majority of their close games.

Still, it has its benefits for the Chiefs. In what became a lost season, Kansas City netted the No. 9 overall pick in the draft. That top-10 selection can be used to bring a veritable star to the Chiefs, adding an important piece to an already strong roster (at least when healthy).

One NFL draft analyst has a strong take on what the Chiefs should do with that pick.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah is one of the most widely-respected analysts in the business, particularly when it comes to the NFL draft. He felt strongly the Chiefs should consider taking Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love with the No. 9 pick.

“Yeah I’ve just kind of felt that’s been a missing piece for them,” Jeremiah said this week on his pre-Combine conference call. “I think the Chiefs — and Tyreek Hill, with him being back in the news and being released and we’ll see if he ends up back in Kansas City. But I think he was a really key player in that offense and was a really key contributor at changing the game.”

“I really think that because of how explosive and dynamic that Chiefs team was, you saw this shell coverage kind of take over the league,” Jeremiah continued. “Two-high looks, willing to concede some yards underneath in the passing game and even in the running game, and just we’re not going to let you throw the ball over our heads. We’re not going to give up explosive plays.”

“That was really kind of a direct result of how dynamic that Chiefs offense was, and to some degree the Rams as well,” Jeremiah said. “But I always thought that man, with the looks that [the Chiefs] see, if you had a dynamic back. Who not only could run the ball and make [defenses] pay for those looks, but someone with the safeties and everyone so deep.”

“If you had one-on-one routes the best matchup in football would be Jeremiyah Love against a linebacker. You’ve got a chance to get explosives without having to throw the ball down the field. So that offense in Kansas City has been everything quick underneath, quick underneath because of the looks they’re getting. But they haven’t been able to make people pay for those looks. And I think this is an opportunity, as a runner and as a receiver, to really make some teams pay for how they play Kansas City.”

In 2025 Love was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy and totaled 1,372 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns at 6.9 yards per carry, adding 280 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He’s widely considered a top 10 prospect in this class.
