Spurs Join Chelsea in Race for Blockbuster£100m Signing

The two London clubs, Spurs and Chelsea have their eyes set on a huge signing at the end of the season. Liam Rosenior have already informed the management about his desire to manage Morgan Rogers. On the other hand, Spurs’ management also set their sights on the Aston Villa forward. It would be interesting to see which team signs the player first.

Tottenham have been tipped to rival Chelsea with an ambitious transfer move for Aston Villa attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers this summer. The England international has established himself as one of the most talented young players in the Premier League in recent times. One imagines it’s only a matter of time before he makes the step up to a bigger club.

Tottenham Hotspur have long established themselves as one of the ‘big six’ in the Premier League. Although their league positions in recent years have failed to reflect this acknowledgment. Spurs recorded their worst-ever league finish last season. The current campaign looks to be heading in a similar direction after a string of poor results since the beginning of November. Thomas Frank has quite rightly received criticism for his side’s terrible performances. However, he is working with an attacking line of players who fail to score and create chances at the level they should.

Recent years have seen Spurs splash more money on transfer fees, but the club are still yet to spend more than £65m on an individual player.

Reports regarding the target of Chelsea and Spurs

Wyness has previously said during an interview that he could see Rogers costing around 100 million. He thinks Spurs might now be ready to push the boat out a bit more. The north London outfit have recently lost something of a golden generation of players. With Harry Kane and Son Heung-min among those to leave in the last few years. That means someone like Rogers is badly needed. He’s been named as someone to watch out for with THFC this summer.

“I think they have to spend in the summer. This is something they’ve really got to do. I think that Spurs, the whole reason I think of the shift away from Daniel Levy, was that they now feel they’ve got to get more aggressive,” Wyness said. “We talked about Morgan Rogers. That’s the sort of quality that we’re talking about Spurs having to go for now to really get going. “Ever since the days of Harry Kane, there’s been no real marquee Spurs player that’s come in, and they’ve got to get one or two at least of those sorts of quality players in there.”

Morgan Rogers and Aston Villa vs Newcastle United

This fourth-round tie packed Villa Park with drama, incident, and goals as Newcastle channeled their frustration and turned the game on its head in impressive fashion in the second half. Although Aston Villa goalkeeper Marco Bizot was red-carded just before halftime, the visitors had been angered by a series of dubious calls from referee Chris Kavanagh and his officials. With the video assistant referee (VAR) not in operation for the competition’s fourth round.

Officials did not flag Villa striker Tammy Abraham offside when he collected a Douglas Luiz free kick and put the hosts ahead in the 14th minute. Abraham was offside when Luiz clipped a free kick into the box. But the linesman’s flag stayed down as the striker chested the ball down and hooked it into the net. This was his first goal since rejoining the club from Besiktas last month.

Trippier sent Murphy through with a searching ball over the top after Villa forward Leon Bailey had given the ball away. His teammates still high up the pitch from an earlier corner.
