Cavaliers' G League Affiliate Acquires Two-Time NBA All-Star

On Friday, Cleveland Cavaliers beat reporter Danny Cunningham reported that two-time All-Star Victor Oladipo was traded from the Wisconsin Herd to the Cleveland Charge. This season, Oladipo averaged 13.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game as a member of the Herd.

Oladipo has not played in a regular-season NBA game since 2023. Due to the 33-year-old guard having over four years of experience in the league, the Cavaliers can not offer him a two-way contract.

He is eligible to sign a standard contract with any NBA team that has an open roster spot.

Victor Oladipo's Career

Oladipo played his collegiate basketball career at Indiana, becoming a top draft prospect in his final year. He was named the 2013 Sporting News Men’s College Basketball Player of the Year.

Oladipo was drafted by the Orlando Magic with the No. 2 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. He had three productive seasons with the Magic, serving as a frequent starter, before being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2016.

Oladipo is best known for his time with the Indiana Pacers, having a breakthrough during the 2017-2018 season. He earned an All-NBA Third Team selection, was named to the All-Defensive First Team, won the Most Improved Player award, and led the league in steals.

With a 48-34 record, Oladipo helped the Pacers finish as the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. The franchise was then eliminated in the opening round of the playoffs by the Cavaliers, who were led by four-time MVP LeBron James.

After a career-best season, a series of injuries decreased Oladipo's time on the court throughout the following years. He has not appeared in more than 42 games since 2018.

Oladipo's last stint in the NBA was with the Miami Heat. In 2023, the Heat made an NBA Finals appearance. He did not appear in the championship series due to a knee injury suffered earlier in the playoffs.

While Oladipo has an extensive history of injuries, his G League comeback could result in a second chance to join an NBA roster. The recent trade to the Charge suggests that he has captured attention at the developmental level.
