Buffalo Bills Deliver Major News for Key Backup Offensive Lineman

Bills offensive lineman Alec Anderson gives a loud roar towards the sidelines as the unit warms up during day six of the Buffalo Bills training camp.

Since Alec Anderson just completed his third accrued season, which is earned when a player is on a team’s 53-man roster, injured reserve, or PUP list for at least six regular-season games, he is a restricted free agent. The Bills essentially have multiple options, including a right-of-first-refusal tender worth a non-guaranteed $3.547 million, without receiving draft compensation, a second-round tender worth a non-guaranteed $5.811 million, and a first-round tender worth a non-guaranteed $8.107 million, if they decline to match an offer sheet from an opposing team, they would receive a second- or first-round pick, depending on the tender. Lastly, the front office can either bypass the tender and sign Anderson to a one-year or multi-year deal, or not tender him.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Bills have re-signed Alec Anderson to a contract, bypassing the restricted free agent tender for a smaller salary in exchange for some guaranteed money. The deal is for one year and is worth $3 million, with $1.8 million guaranteed. Anderson may have a chance to compete for the starting left guard position this offseason if starter David Edwards departs in free agency.
