Tyreek Hill back to the Chiefs? Coach Andy Reid didn’t exactly rule it out

Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones created some buzz on social media last week after the Miami Dolphins released former Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Shortly after Hill became available, Jones tagged him and posted, “It’s (time),” with a clock emoji, to his Twitter/X account. On Friday, head coach Andy Reid weighed in — and, somewhat surprisingly, he didn’t rule out Hill’s potential return to KC.

“We go through everything and everybody,” Reid said on a Zoom with local reporters. “That’s how (general manager) Brett (Veach) does (it). I don’t even know if Tyreek is healthy right now to do anything.”

Reid’s right, as in Week 4 of this past season, Hill suffered a devastating knee injury that required surgery. But recent social media posts this week showed that the receiver was working out in Kansas City.

Hill was later spotted at a KC-area Texas Roadhouse.

“I’m sure he’s working hard on that part of it (and) trying to get all that straightened out,” Reid said. “We talk about everything, so there’s nothing happening there, but we know what you know and he’s out there cranking away trying to get himself back to where he can play, period.”

The Chiefs took Hill in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, and he spent five years with the club, including the Super Bowl LIV championship season. He quickly became one of Patrick Mahomes’ favorite targets, catching nearly 500 passes for more than 6,600 yards and scoring 62 touchdowns during his time with the Chiefs.

Kansas City traded Hill to the Dolphins for five draft picks during the 2022 offseason.

For any team to sign Hill, who will be 32 at the start of the 2026 NFL season, he would presumably need to pass a physical. Hill recently wrote “The Cheetah will be back” on his official Instagram account.

When that time comes, maybe, as Reid suggested, the Chiefs would at least be open to discussing a reunion.
