It was sadly announced Friday that college basketball reporter Joey Knight died.
Knight covered the South Florida Bulls and Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the Tampa Bay Times. He described himself as someone with a passion for sports and creative writing. That was pretty evident for anyone familiar with his work over the years.
According to reports, Knight passed away after a battle with cancer. His family confirmed this heartbreaking news on Facebook.
"Joey Knight's family posted on FB that he passed away this morning," Florida Gators reporter Scott Carter said. "JK covered #Gators, USF, Bucs and much more in his time at the Tampa Tribune and Tampa Bay Times. He was a regular at UF pressers and games this past season amidst cancer battle. RIP to a good soul."

After this devastating news was announced Friday, countless reporters shared kind messages about Knight's work ethic and personality.
"Man, what a good dude," Stephen Holder of ESPN said. "Every interaction I had with him was 10/10. RIP Joey."
"You're going to see a lot of tributes for Joey Knight. They're all warranted," Buccaneers reporter Jenna Laine said. "A really kind human and a beautiful storyteller. You felt his essence in every story he wrote. Not only did he never lose sight of the human element - it was always front and center."
"Joey was easily the nicest, most genuine person I've known. Absolutely no ego, incredibly talented & willing to help at all times. Such a tremendous, tremendous loss. Prayers to his family," Brett McMurphy of On3 said.
There's no question Knight made a strong impact on the college basketball community.
Our thoughts are with Knight's loved ones.
