MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A wide receiver and recent running back who played at Clemson University is preparing for the NFL combine after growing up and playing youth football in Myrtle Beach.
Adam Randall began playing football at age 7 alongside his older brother, Austin, who later played at Coastal Carolina before joining Adam at Clemson.
Their father, Jerome Randall, said he coached both sons from the time they were young.
“I coached Adam and Austin since they were born. I was coaching, and Adam was right beside me on the field,” Jerome said. “He was four years old coaching himself.”
From Myrtle Beach to Clemson
In high school, Adam was named a finalist for Mr. Football South Carolina and was selected for the North-South Game and the Under Armour All-American Game his senior year.
Jerome recalled the family’s investment in Adam’s development, including a trip to a North Carolina State football camp.
“I remember going to a North Carolina State camp, football camp, and I lost my gloves,” Jerome said. “He said, you guys went, found a Dick’s, and bought the gloves back to me... You guys really invested.”
Adam went on to Clemson as a five-star recruit.
In his senior season, he was voted team captain by his teammates and was named a Pop Warner Award finalist, an award given to a senior who has made an impact on the field, in the classroom, and within the community.
Impact on current Seahawks players
Myrtle Beach High School head coach Mickey Wilson said Adam’s path has resonated with the program’s current players.
“It does generate some excitement for our younger guys to see him,” Wilson said. “A guy who was just in this field house six, seven years ago, and lived just like they did. So it creates a buzz, it creates excitement for all of our players to see that.”
Jerome said his son told him recently, “This is what I dreamed of. It’s here. This is where we’re at now.”
The NFL combine begins Monday. Wide receivers are scheduled for on-field drills on Saturday.
