KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A decision on Travis Kelce’s future looms over the Kansas City Chiefs offseason, but the two sides remain in contact.
During a Zoom press conference with reporters on Friday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was asked about the star tight end’s future.
“There is communication,” Reid said about the status of Kelce’s decision and conversations he’s held with the Chiefs. “That’s the main thing. I always go and I’ve said this before, as long as there’s communication, I’m good. That means people want to move forward.”
Kelce, 36, would be playing his 14th NFL season if he suits up for Kansas City again. He is currently an unrestricted free agent, and has said previously he would try to inform the organization about his career decision on whether to play or retire before free agency and the draft begin.
“I think that’s where Trav is. I’m not trying to put words in his mouth, I’m trying to give him some space,” Reid said, “he’s been doing this a long time. He can sort all that out as he moves forward, but we’re proceeding with that and there is communication going on.”
Last season, Kelce led the Chiefs in receiving yards and receptions and was tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns as the Chiefs stumbled to a 6-11 record and the No. 9 overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Reid spoke to reporters Friday via Zoom because he recently underwent a knee procedure that will not allow him to travel to Indianapolis for the NFL Combine, he said.
