Chelsea were crowned champions of the first edition of the Club World Cup, and those who claimed to appease the competition the most are now desperate to be involved.
There are no doubts that the Blues have felt the effects of a post-season tournament. Injuries have not left star man Cole Palmer alone throughout the campaign.
Despite that, the performance and result in the final against PSG will live long in the memory of Chelsea fans, giving them a real reason to want to make qualification a regular thing.

FIFA want 48 team Club World Cup, UEFA not stopping them

However, according to The Guardian, there are plans from FIFA to expand the tournament before the 2029 edition, with UEFA not prepared to stand in their way of doing so.
Adding more top European sides would take away any noise about the ‘easier’ run the Blues had to the final last year.
Chelsea beat Palmeiras in Estevao Willian’s final game for the Brazilian side in the quarter-finals, before defeating Thiago Silva’s Fluminense thanks to a Joao Pedro brace.
While the tournament looks to get even stronger, there is still no confirmation that the Blues will even be part of the 2029 edition.

Chelsea’s Club World Cup qualification not yet confirmed
The tradition in European competitions is for the winners to be automatically entered into next year’s variation, should they not have already qualified for a superior tournament.
However, up until now there has been no confirmation that Chelsea will be in the upcoming Club World Cup, despite their status as first-time winners.
The competition is still undergoing mass development as a result of its recent founding, and it would feel simply unfair for the Blues to have to qualify again as reigning champions.
