‘Surgery necessary’ – Blow for Liverpool player as season-ending injury revealed

Vítězslav Jaroš

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS – SEPTEMBER 17 2025: Liverpool goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros of AFC Ajax makes a save prior to the UEFA Champions League 2025-2026 League Phase match between AFC Ajax and Inter

During the summer, Liverpool goalkeeper Vítězslav Jaroš joined Ajax on loan, after signing an extension at Anfield.

Two months ago, the Czech Republic international said Arne Slot’s side encouraged him to join Ajax. He’s kept five clean sheets and conceded 42 goals from 26 matches for the Eredivisie side.

Ajax appointed former Liverpool assistant manager John Heitinga as their new manager last summer.

Jaroš followed Heitinga to the Eredivisie side, who showed the exit door to the Dutchman in November. Fred Grim took charge as the interim manager and initially bench the Liverpool owned player in favour of Remko Pasveer.

Jaroš regained his place in the starting XI in December while Pasveer joined Heracles Almelo via a permanent transfer in the winter market. The Dutch club signed Maarten Paes as the Czech’s backup and he’s yet to make his debut.

ESPN NL now state the Liverpool stopper suffered a serious setback in training on Friday.

According to the report, he will be out of action for the ‘foreseeable future’.

This claim is echoed by Voetbal International, who state the Reds owned player is set to be out for the rest of the season.

VI claim January signing Paes will make his debut for Ajax when they face NEC Nijmegen later today.

Ajax confirm Dutch claims on Jaroš

The Amsterdam club have confirmed the latest Dutch claims of the goalkeeper’s injury blow on their official website.

Ajax have issued a statement saying he underwent medical tests following a setback on Friday. The test results have shown ‘surgery is necessary’ and that Jaroš won’t play again this campaign. In other words, his ‘season is over’.

Ajax or any of the Dutch outlet haven’t confirmed when he’s expected to regain full fitness. There’s also no clarity on whether Jaroš will undergo rehabilitation with Liverpool or stay in the Netherlands.

The Reds initially signed the 24-year-old for their academy from Slavia Prague in 2017. Prior to joining Ajax, he had several loan spells at St Patrick’s Athletic, Notts County, Stockport County and Sturm Graz.
