Liverpool's "stance right now" on 25 y/o star who is "close to ridiculous" has been revealed

Liverpool reportedly remain confident of tying star man Dominik Szoboszlai down to a new contract in the near future, amid rumoured interest from Real Madrid.

The Hungarian has easily been the Reds’ standout player in a disappointing season, producing consistently impressive performances on various positions.

There is always concern when Madrid are linked with signing a Liverpool player, however, with Szoboszlai, Ibrahima Konate and Alexis Mac Allistser all backed to move there, and Trent Alexander-Arnold completing a switch to Spain last summer.

Speaking to Football Insider, journalist Pete O’Rourke has now provided the latest on Szoboszlai’s situation, claiming they are relaxed about it:

“Yeah, I think Liverpool’s stance right now is that they’re not concerned about these links with Real Madrid. Obviously there is the usual fanfare that surrounds a player that is in form, that maybe Real Madrid could be interested in Szoboszlai. The club are doing everything they can to try and sign a new contract with the Hungarian.”

Is Dominik Szoboszlai becoming Liverpool’s most important player?

Retaining Szoboszlai’s services beyond this summer is absolutely paramount for Liverpool, with the 25-year-old becoming one of the best players at the club.

The era of Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah is slowly coming to an end, and the Hungary captain can be the future leader of the team, both in terms of quality and being the next skipper.

Szoboszlai has arguably developed into a world-class midfielder, with Arne Slot showing how highly he rates him earlier this month, saying:

“I cannot stop talking about his qualities. Close to ridiculous, on and off the ball, work-rate another level, the intensity, he presses, unbelievable, technique, game insight, offensive midfielder, right-back, right winger, all these qualities in these positions, he has been vital for us this and last season. He will continue to be that for us.”

It is Slot and Liverpool’s job to show Szoboszlai that staying at Anfield is more beneficial than moving to a club like Madrid, and losing a player with his ability and character would be an almighty blow at a tie when some legends are edging closer to leaving.
