Chelsea’s search for a truly world-class number nine has led them back to Julian Alvarez, though the astronomical figures being quoted by the player’s representatives should turn them away.
Liam Rosenior is already set to welcome a new striker into the fold in the summer, with Emanuel Emegha making his way to Stamford Bridge from sister club Strasbourg.
However, that hasn’t stopped Chelsea from casting their eyes on further additions. One player who has been linked with a move back to England is Julian Alvarez.

Forest want £50m.
The Argentine has struggled at Spanish side Atletico Madrid in recent times, despite scoring 13 goals this season, as he’s failed to score in his last 13 La Liga appearances.
So it seems crazy to think that Atletico Madrid are demanding £175 million for his services.
Atletico Madrid want £175 million for Julian Alvarez
As per Cadena SER, Julian Alvarez’s camp has informed interested clubs that his price is around €200m (£175m).
This would be the second-highest transfer in history and the most expensive signing ever in England.
But the report also stated that Alvarez is more likely to sign a new deal with Atletico Madrid rather than leave the club in the summer.
Let’s be real, it’s highly unlikely that Chelsea would entertain an offer above £100 million, let alone the price they’re asking for. For a player who’s struggling for form, demanding that kind of price clearly points towards them wanting Alvarez to stay at all costs.

Chelsea needs to walk away from Julian Alvarez
With Atletico Madrid slapping a staggering £175m valuation on the Argentine, the message is clear. He is not for sale, or at the very least, he is not for sale to Chelsea.
Bringing in a player who reportedly views Stamford Bridge as a backup plan to Barcelona is a recipe for further dressing room instability. Rather than shattering the world transfer record for a player who has managed fewer goals than Joao Pedro this season, the board should trust the foundations already in place.
Under Liam Rosenior, Joao Pedro has flourished, and with young talents like Emmanuel Emegha waiting in the wings, the £175m would be far better spent addressing the defensive fragility.
