Liverpool continue to deal with squad pressure as the season moves into a decisive phase.

The team has struggled with injuries in recent weeks.

Several key players have missed matches, forcing changes in defence and midfield.

This has come at a time when the club is also managing contract uncertainty around senior figures.

There are concerns about long-term replacements as the squad evolves.

The club’s recruitment team has already moved toward future planning.

A major overhaul last summer changed the shape of the squad.

There are also ongoing talks involving players whose deals expire in 2026.

That situation has pushed Liverpool to monitor defensive depth closely. It has also increased focus on younger players who once came through the academy.

One former academy defender is now trying to restart his career elsewhere.

Flint Town United have officially signed ex-Liverpool centre-back Lee Jonas on an 18-month deal.

The official statement said, “We are pleased to welcome Lee Jonas to the Essity Stadium.”

“The former Liverpool Youth and Academy player joins as a free agent and has signed an 18 month contract with Flint.”

“The 21 year old centre back started with Liverpool Youth before progressing into their U18 and U21 teams, but a series of injuries then curtailed his career with the Reds and he was released at the end of last season.”

The 21-year-old joins the Welsh top-flight side after leaving Anfield in June 2025.

He had recently completed a two-week trial at Stockport County before choosing the move.

Jonas spent several years in Liverpool’s academy after joining from Everton at under-12 level.

He captained youth sides and made regular appearances in Premier League 2 and the UEFA Youth League. He also earned three England Under-19 caps.

Flint manager Lee Fowler spoke openly about why the club moved quickly to sign him.

He said, “Lee has been training with us now for 2/3 weeks. He has huge potential, and that’s the reason, as a club, we’ve tied him down on an 18-month deal.”

Fowler added, “There’s still work for him to do, but the potential is there in a big way.”

Fowler also explained the importance of rebuilding the defender’s confidence.

He said, “It was clear from the first session that the most important thing I needed to do was get a smile back on his face and get his love back for football.”

He continued, “Secondly, it was about giving him a place where he can feel at home and feel wanted.”

Fowler concluded, “You tick those two boxes and his natural ability will come out even more, and that’s what it’s done.”

From a Liverpool perspective, Jonas’ move highlights how academy exits can still lead to professional pathways.
