'The situation...' - Fabrizio Romano shares Arne Slot sack update out of Liverpool

Liverpool are unlikely to sack manager Arne Slot before the end of the season, journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The Anfield side are prepared to see out the campaign with the Dutchman in charge, before making a decision on his future during an internal review in the summer.

Liverpool’s form under Slot has improved in recent weeks, with the Reds winning five of their last seven games across all competitions, suffering defeats only to Manchester City and Bournemouth.

Sitting sixth in the Premier League with 12 games to go, Liverpool next travel to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Liverpool Maintain Trust in Arne Slot

Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, revealed that Liverpool continue to support Slot and appear unlikely to make a decision on his future before the end of the season:

“I keep repeating to you the same. So far remains the support of Liverpool for Arne Slot. They've always been supporting the manager in recent months, even in complicated moments. So that remains the situation.

“Nothing is about to happen on the future of Arne Slot. Then, from now to the end of the season, let's see how Liverpool end the season, how their Champions League campaign will be.

“So there are still several factors to indicate the future of Arne Slot. So from now to the end of the season, maximum support coming from Liverpool to Arne Slot.

“Then in the summer, there will be, before the summer transfer window, an internal review of everything. Of course, the Champions League campaign and how Liverpool will finish the season could be important to understand the future of Arne Slot.”

Slot joined Liverpool in the summer of 2024, replacing Jurgen Klopp, and led the Reds to their second-ever Premier League title in his first season at the club.

The Dutchman has endured a much more difficult second campaign, winning just 21 of 39 games, despite Liverpool spending £415m on new signings last summer.

In recent days, Alexis Mac Allister has been linked with a shock switch from Liverpool to Manchester United, and his father Carlos' recent comments have fuelled further speculation over the Argentinian’s future at Anfield.

When asked about the rumours, Mac Allister’s father refused to rule out his son’s departure amid ongoing contract talks, saying they are waiting for a proposal from Liverpool:

"We are waiting for an offer to renew his contract. We will see what the club's plan is. We'll wait and see what happens with the renewal. That's all."

Who Could Replace Arne Slot?

Xabi Alonso

Amid the uncertainty surrounding Slot’s future at Liverpool beyond the season, we asked ChatGPT about three potential candidates to replace the Dutchman:

Roberto De Zerbi – His attacking, possession-based style fits Liverpool’s philosophy, and he has shown adaptability in different leagues, making him a realistic candidate.

Xabi Alonso – A former Liverpool captain familiar with the club’s culture, Alonso could implement tactical discipline while maintaining the club’s pressing style.

Julian Nagelsmann – Experienced with high-intensity, modern systems, Nagelsmann could lead a smooth tactical transition while handling the pressures of the Premier League.
