Wesley Fofana explains the big difference between working for Liam Rosenior and Enzo Maresca

Chelsea have made a very strong start to life under Liam Rosenior, and star defender Wesley Fofana is enjoying how the club are playing under their new manager.

The new boss has brought a number of tactical tweaks to the club since he replaced Enzo Maresca, who left on New Year’s Day.

Champions League winner Roberto Di Matteo has praised Rosenior for his desire to dominate the ball. and it is clear the message has got on board to the players very quickly too.

Are you convinced by Rosenior yet, Chelsea fans?

His start is almost as good as Jose's!

Wesley Fofana loves how direct Chelsea are under Liam Rosenior

Fofana has enjoyed a more regular run of games than ever before at Stamford Bridge, with his injury issues now seeming to be a thing of the past.

The Frenchman told the Chelsea website that he is a big fan of the Blues being more direct and playing at a higher tempo since the new manager came in.

He said: “We are working well and the mentality is top because the manager comes with a new mentality – a little bit more aggressive when we’ve got the ball. The team understands that and we’re working well.

“It’s a little bit more direct, the tempo is a little bit more high. Without the ball as well, we try to put a lot of intensity into it to recover the ball quickly.”

Chelsea had developed a reputation under Maresca, particularly against weaker teams for a stale, stagnant approach at times. this has not been the case in recent weeks.

Goals have actually been free-flowing since Rosenior joined. They have scored 28 goals in 11 games so far.

Chelsea players are buying into Liam Rosenior’s tactics

Even when Rosenior’s tactics have been questioned by pundits, it seems he still has the support of those most important – the players.

Chelsea crashed out of the EFL Cup in the semi-finals to Arsenal, and their ambitious plan to make the second leg a damp affair until the end didn’t pay off.

Despite that, Trevoh Chalobah spoke highly of Rosenior’s plan, saying that the players bought into what the manager was saying.

There seems to be a sense of real respect between the players and manager, which is brilliant to see considering the lack of experience he had before walking into one of the top jobs in world football.
