Liverpool are set for back-to-back summers of uncertainty.
It remains to be seen whether the Reds will qualify for the Champions League but if they do it is expected that Arne Slot will stay in charge of the team.
With the Dutchman at the helm, his first point of focus will be his backline.
Ibrahima Konate has turned his season round as of late, putting gin a string of solid performances after a shaky start to the campaign.
Real Madrid dropped their interest in him towards the end of the year, but it still remains to be seen whether he will sign a contract extension with Liverpool or see himself become a free agent in the summer.
The possibility of an exit remains, and that will unsettle Arne Slot.
Another possible big-name departure is Joe Gomez.
The 28-year-old has faced another season that has been heavily disrupted by injuries and when he is fit, he fails to regularly make Arne Slot’s starting eleven.
AC Milan attempted to sign the defender in January, and it is believed that they will reconsider a move in the summer.
Caught Offside report Liverpool considering a sale stating that “Liverpool are keen to reshape their back line with younger, specialist profiles.”
“Gomez is no longer seen as indispensable but rather as a valuable market asset. With his contract expiring in 2027, the summer of 2026 is viewed as the last major opportunity for the club to secure a significant transfer fee.”
Liverpool agreed a £60million deal in January to bring Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet to the club in the summer but the looming risk of letting Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate go makes it a risk for the Reds.
If the duo were to depart, Liverpool would have to find a replacement for Joe Gomez as well as Ibrahima Konate.
Having said that, since the turn of the year Arne Slot has appeared to be more positive about the possibility of an Ibrahima Konate extension agreement being reached so we will see how that develops.
