The Liverpool loanee is finally set to catch a break at Aston Villa.
It hasn’t gone to plan at all for Harvey Elliott at his new club so far.
Departing on loan with the idea of picking up regular first-team football at a Premier League club, the Liverpool loanee has failed to achieve that dream this season.
Despite agreeing with the deal in the first place, Aston Villa have become increasingly frustrated with an appearance clause inserted into the agreement as the season has progressed.
If Harvey Elliott made 10 appearances for the club this season, the option to buy him permanently from Liverpool would be activated.
Deciding very early on that they didn’t want to activate that clause, Harvey Elliott has gone on to spend the majority of the season on the bench.
However, new details of his loan move have now been revealed that could now breathe fresh life into his time at Aston Villa.
According to The Athletic, that appearance-related trigger only applies to Premier League matches, with the midfielder able to play in any other club competition as many times as possible without that clause being affected.
It is confusing that it has taken nearly six months for the details of that specific clause to emerge and you feel as if Unai Emery would’ve been more obliged to play him in the Europa League and the FA Cup more had he been aware of the details.
Even so, this will come as a major boost to Harvey Elliott who will feel he can contribute in a big way in the Europa League if Aston Villa are to continue to progress.
If Emery decidesto deploy him more, Harvey Elliott’s frustrations that have plagued him this season could be about to be lifted.
With that being said, his future remains uncertain, with a return to Liverpool the most realistic conclusion but he will most likely move on again if the right club arrives for him in the summer.
