The [Pittsburgh Steelers](https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers) are one of many teams in the market for a quarterback this offseason, and the Steelers also have a wide range of possible outcomes when it comes to addressing that need.
Pittsburgh could see Aaron Rodgers return, in which case they are set under center for another season. However, if Rodgers retires or chooses to play elsewhere, we could see the Steelers sign or trade for a veteran quarterback.
And, regardless of what happens with Rodgers, we could also see the Steelers draft a quarterback given their shaky outlook at the position.
One draft prospect to keep an eye on for Pittsburgh is Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson. [ESPN's Brooke Pryor](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47981589/pittsburgh-steelers-nfl-combine-quarterback-reset-store-aaron-rodgers-2026-draft) reports the Steelers have "closely watched" the young signal-caller, which is a clear sign there is interest there.
"In his latest mock draft, ESPN's Field Yates has the Steelers using their No. 21 pick on Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson," she said. "The Steelers have closely watched Simpson, who threw for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns and five interceptions in his lone season as a full-time starter for the Crimson Tide."
Simpson is one of the most polarizing prospects in this year's draft class.
While he is widely considered the second-best quarterback behind Fernando Mendoza, there is hardly agreement about how high he should go in the draft.
We've seen Simpson mocked to the Steelers and other teams in the first round, but there are no shortage of experts who believe he shouldn't come off the board until the second round or later.
Simpson's numbers in his final collegiate season were no doubt impressive, but he also struggled down the stretch of the campaign, which no doubt hurt his stock.
With the shallow class at the position, we could see Simpson cementing himself as a first-round pick with a strong showing at the combine.
Based on Pittsburgh's need, and with Pryor's report, we would not be shocked if Simpson lands with the Steelers at some point in the 2026 NFL draft.
