Alongside Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz is now forming a strong connection with Ryan Gravenberch.
Ekitike and Wirtz have been two of the Reds’ best players in the last couple of months.
They have already combined for six goals this season, and one more will see them break a record set by Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard in 2002/03.
However, while the summer additions have stepped up in recent games, Ryan Gravenberch has now spoken out about his blossoming relationship with the German.
Florian Wirtz praises Ryan Gravenberch
In an interview with the club’s media team, the Dutchman highlighted the unique quality Wirtz possesses, which a lot of midfielders do not.
He said: “You see the quality he has. He needed a bit of time to adapt, but you see now the quality that he has in terms of what he does – scoring goals, giving assists, creating opportunities for other players to help them score. So it’s really nice to have him here.
“He’s a special player. I think you can give him the ball and he makes something happen. I don’t think a lot of midfielders have that.
“We’ve got a good relationship with each other. Obviously we are both young, so we kind of go along together, we talk a lot with each other and on the pitch the same thing.

Florian Wirtz can make history at Liverpool
After a slow start to the season, the 22-year-old is now firing on all cylinders.
Across all competitions, he has provided eight assists and scored six goals.
With Liverpool still going strong in three competitions this term, there is still plenty of time for Wirtz to become the highest-scoring German in the club’s history.
Karl-Heinz currently holds that record at Liverpool, netting 15 goals for the Reds across all competitions.
Emre Can (14) then sits second on the list, followed by Dietmar Hamann (11).
Given Wirtz is already on six, he should surpass Karl-Heinz’s record either by the end of 2025/26 or early next season.
