Pro Football Focus released it’s postseason list of the top 101 players in the NFL on Friday. The Green Bay Packers placed three players on the list. With 32 teams in the league, that’s roughly average if the talent around the league was distributed equally. But what does this list tell us about where the Packers stand entering the 2026 offseason? There are two main lessons to be gleaned from this ranking.
The three Packers players who made the list included safety Xavier McKinney who finished 66th overall and fifth among safeties. McKinney earned second All-Pro honors this year after being named first team All-Pro in 2024.
Jordan Love also made the list, finishing 37th overall. Only three quarterbacks were ranked higher than the Packers signal caller. They were Matthew Stafford, Josh Allen and Drake Maye.
The final Packers player to earn a spot in the top 101 players was defensive end Micah Parsons. He finished 13th on the list with only Myles Garrett, Will Anderson, and Aidan Hutchinson ranking ahead of him among players at his position.
The good news would be that most experts consider quarterback the most important position on offense and edge rusher the move important position on defense. The Packers have players on the list at those key positions.
But at first glance, having just three players on this list would indicate the Packers just don’t have enough top end talent to compete for a Super Bowl.
By contrast, the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks placed eight players on the list and the NFC runners up, the Los Angeles Rams, had 10 players on the list. In the NFC North, the Bears placed three players on the list and the Lions had five.
But this list also illustrates the impact of injuries on 2025 Green Bay Packers. Tight end Tucker Kraft was clearly on pace to make this list had his season not been ended by an injury after only eight games. He was on pace to become the first Packers tight end to gain more than 1,000 receiving yards in a season when he was forced out of the lineup.
If wide receiver Christian Watson was available and healthy for all 17 games, he was on pace to gain more than 1,000 yards for the first time in his NFL career and to score 10 receiving touchdowns. Watson only played 10 games and was on a play count in several others. Could he have cracked the list had he been healthy?
Running back Josh Jacobs also struggled through injuries that cost him several games and received poor run blocking by the offensive line. He gained exactly 400 fewer yards in 2025 than he did the previous season although he was still making tacklers miss and gaining yards after first contact in 2025. Jacobs ranked 34th on the list in 2024 but didn’t crack the top 101 this season.
Starting right tackle Zach Tom also suffered through an injury plagued year. Tom officially played in 12 games this season although he played just one snap in one of them and reduced snaps in two others. Despite playing through several injuries, he still graded out as the team’s best offensive lineman and was ranked in the top 10 of qualified offensive tackles by PFF. A year ago, Tom ranked 48th on the Pro Football Focus top 101 players list. This season, he did not make the cut.
So, were the 2025 Green Bay Packers unlucky or lacking in elite talent? The answer is probably a bit of both. If general manager Brian Gutekunst really wants this team to compete for a Super Bowl next season, he will have to try to add some more top end talent and hope that the team’s best players are healthier in 2026 than they were in 2025.
Without a first-round pick in this year’s draft and with a limited amount of cap space in free agency, that will be a challenge. Ultimately, the 101 best players list shows how good the Packers can be and how far they still have to go.
This will be a critical offseason for the Packers if they hope to win the Super Bowl in the near future.
