The return of Pedro González “Pedri” comes as a major boost for FC Barcelona on the eve of their LaLiga clash against Levante at Spotify Camp Nou.
After back-to-back defeats against Atlético de Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey Mapfre semifinal and Girona in their most recent league outing, the midfielder’s comeback is eagerly awaited.
Pedri has been sidelined since January 21, when he suffered a right hamstring injury during Barcelona’s Champions League match against Slavia in Prague. His absence has deprived Hansi Flick’s side of their No. 8’s creativity and composure for the past seven competitive matches.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Flick confirmed the positive update. Pedri “is back!” the coach said, adding that he “might be able to play some minutes” as soon as Sunday.
Flick also emphasized the importance of leadership within the squad, one of the key themes of his remarks.
He made clear that Pedri’s influence extends beyond his technical ability. “For us, he is also very important on the field,” Flick noted, adding, “He is a different kind of leader because of his quality, and he can become one of those leaders we were talking about in the future.”
