Jaden Ivey
Jaden Ivey underwent knee surgery last month before the start of the season.
A postgame message from Jaden Ivey had many wondering if the Chicago Bulls guard was dealing with a physical ailment. While he admitted his knee has been bothering him, there wasn’t a diagnosis released from the team.
The Bulls hosted the Toronto Raptors on February 19. Heading into the match-up, Ivey was not on the injury report and was admittedly ready to play. To everybody’s surprise, he would pick up a DNP. After the game, he addressed the situation.
“Going into it, I was prepared to play,” Ivey told reporters. “Going into it, I think everybody was up in the air with who was going to play. If coach wants me in there, I’ll be ready.”

Jaden Ivey on his DNP in last nights game against the Raptors:
“I’m not the same player I used to be. That’s why. I’m not the J.I. I used to be. The old J.I. is dead. I’m alive in Christ no matter what the basketball setting is.”

It’s been a rough past year for Ivey. While he was thriving in his third season with the Pistons, Ivey suffered a season-ending leg injury in a New Year’s matchup against the Orlando Magic.
As the Pistons went on to play in the playoffs for the first time since he’s been on the team, Ivey remained sidelined, hoping to bounce back in 2025-2026.

While Ivey recovered from his surgery, a knee-related issue popped up late in the preseason. The veteran guard ended up missing the start of the year for the Pistons. He made his season debut on November 22 against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Ivey’s numbers regressed during his fourth year in Detroit. He left the club with averages of 8.2 points and 1.6 assists, while shooting 37 percent from deep.
Being in a contract year, the Pistons moved Ivey’s deal to the rebuilding Bulls. He appeared in four games in Chicago, shooting 41 percent from the field to average 11.5 points, along with 4.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.
After a DNP, Ivey made a concerning comment, claiming that the old version of himself is no longer available. While the veteran guard meant it in a spiritual sense, many took it as a sign that Ivey’s physical setbacks have taken a toll. Time will tell if that’s the case.
