Kevin Durant hinted that retirement may be on the horizon

Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant has dominated the NBA for nearly two decades.

So far during his illustrious career, the 2007 Rookie of the Year has racked up four scoring titles, 16 All-Star selections, MVP and Finals MVP honors.

He is also the most decorated Olympian in U.S. Men’s Basketball history with four Gold medal wins to his credit.

Soon, for the first time since 2007, the NBA landscape could be without the Slim Reaper, who told fans in a viral clip that next season could be his last.

“One more year! One more year,” Durant chanted lightheartedly.

When told that his retirement news would break hearts, Durant continued to hold up his index finger, signaling that he would only play for one more season.

Should Durant truly be approaching the end of his legendary career, he can rest assured knowing that he will soon be enshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

Since entering the league, Durant has been among the most proficient scorers in the league.

Every year since his rookie season, the two-time All-Star MVP has averaged 25 points or better. His 17 such seasons are the second-most in NBA history — only LeBron James (20) has more.

“He’s one of the best players ever, you know, just what he’s able to do, what he’s still able to do at such a high level,” Rockets guard Amen Thompson said. It’s just like crazy to watch [him play].”

Durant reached the 20-point threshold on Feb. 10 for the 1000th time in his career, joining LeBron James, Karl Malone and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the only players to do so.

Durant, who appeared in his 16th All-Star game last week, leads the Rockets with 26 points per game.

“There’s no dropoff. It’s the same ol’ Kevin, efficient,” said Rockets head coach Ime Udoka. “It’s good for the group to have that [in Houston], and it’s rubbed off on our young guys. He goes about every day the same as he always has.”

Farewell tours have become commonplace, especially in the NBA, as the league and fans honor the greats who pushed the game forward.

Few are more deserving of a celebratory send-off than Kevin Durant.

Durant, the NBA’s sixth all-time leading scorer, made a legendary imprint on the game and will likely add a few more records before his imminent retirement.

His 2010s rivalry with LeBron James is one of the most storied arcs in league history. Additionally, Durant helped pioneer one of the most dominant teams ever assembled — the 73-9 Golden State Warriors.

His scoring prowess ranks among the best in league history and, moving forward, it will be impossible to discuss legends of the game without mentioning Durant.

He is one of the most elite three-level scorers the league has ever seen and, if he is serious about playing one more season, deserves to be cherished with a farewell tour next season.
