Thiago Alcantara previously admitted that his experience at Liverpool fulfilled every desire he had. The Spaniard ended his seven-year stint at Bayern Munich in order to sign for the Reds for $26 million in 2020.

While the Premier League champions have had many a world-class player represent them, Liverpool have rarely gone out and bought established legends in recent years, as the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino established themselves as top players whilst at the club.

Thiago arrived at Liverpool with a trophy cabinet of 25 honours, including two Champions League titles. While he won just one FA Cup in his four-year tenure in Merseyside, the 34-year-old was a fan favourite.

He left the club in 2024 after making just one appearance all season and subsequently retired from football at the age of 33. Currently an assistant at Barcelona under head coach Hansi Flick, the former Spain international spoke to Coaches’ Voice to discuss his experience at Liverpool as both a person and player.

Thiago praised the pressure of competing for titles and dominance he felt on the pitch as part of the team. He explained: "My time at Liverpool encompassed everything I look for in a club and everything I’d always loved.

"The feeling of competing for every trophy, of being dominant on the pitch, yet giving off that sense of being a fighting club where every day you have to battle for a goal.

"It wasn’t that we fell short of anything in particular; you just had to really work for it." He opened up about playing under Jurgen Klopp, who he described as a "manager capable of adapting every possible situation to the team’s favor."

Regarding the legendary German, he added: "With Klopp, there are no bad situations; just moments that need to be channelled in a way that makes them favourable to your team. He managed to instil that flow of energy, that direction, so everyone followed him.

The Spaniard will certainly receive a rousing reaction from the Liverpool faithful upon his return to Anfield next month to play for the Liverpool Legends team against Borussia Dortmund.

Thiago will feature alongside the likes of Steven Gerrard, Sami Hyypia, Martin Skrtel, Vladimir Smicer, Natasha Dowie, and goalkeepers Jerzy Dudek, Pepe Reina, and Sander Westerveld.
