Chelsea dropped points in the race for the Champions League spots as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley on Saturday

Chelsea failed to take some initiative in the race for the top five as they were held to a shock 1-1 draw by Championship-bound Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

Joao Pedro put the hosts 1-0 up after just four minutes but they were unable to push home their advantage. Wesley Fofana was sent off in the 72nd minute and in second-half stoppage time, Zian Flemming grabbed a point for the Clarets.

Reflecting on the game, Liam Rosenior said: “I felt the second-half performance was actually miles better than the first-half performance, even though we were 1-0 up at half-time.

“Up until the red card, I felt it was wave after wave of attack. We didn't make the right decision for the moments that we created and we didn't finish off the game when we should have.

“When you don't do that, you leave yourself open. But there's too many instances, even in my time here. Wolves away, Crystal Palace away, Leeds at home, today, where we've conceded goals from moments of lack of concentration, lack of accountability. If we want to maximise the potential, which I know is there, we have to address that very quickly.”

The result moves Chelsea into fourth, level on points with Manchester United and three ahead of Liverpool. The Blues have a much better goal difference than their closest rivals but both sides have to play on Sunday.
