Former Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso has reportedly requested that Liverpool sign Los Blancos midfielder Arda Guler if they want him to become their new coach. The Spaniard has come under the radar of the reigning Premier League champions once again amid their disappointing season under Arne Slot.

A report from Fichajes (via Tribal Football) has revealed that Alonso is open to becoming the new Liverpool boss but wants Guler to be signed. The 44-year-old is keen on reuniting with the Turkiye international, who thrived under his tutelage earlier this season.

Xabi Alonso appeared to take 20-year-old Arda Guler under his wing at the Bernabeu following his appointment last summer, giving the youngster a prominent role. Guler stood up to the task, scoring four goals and providing 11 assists in 35 appearances under the Spaniard.

The former Bayer Leverkusen boss fielded an approach from Liverpool before they appointed Arne Slot in 2024, and could now look to replace the Dutchman. The Reds have failed in their bid to defend their Premier League title as they currently sit in sixth place on the table.

In Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, Alonso has familiar players from his hugely successful spell with Bayer Leverkusen, and will be keen on a reunion. The former Real Madrid coach's desire to have Guler may stem from his desire for greater creativity in the Reds squad.

Arda Guler has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu on several occasions since his arrival at the club, including this season. The former Fenerbahce man is said to be unsettled at Real Madrid, as revealed by a former coach of his, and could be open to moving elsewhere for more stability.

Liverpool set to block Real Madrid interest in star midfielder: Reports

Liverpook are prepared to ward off interest from Real Madrid in midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai ahead of the summer, as per reports. The Hungary international has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu, a club he considers to be a 'dream' destination for any player.

According to TEAMTalk, Arne Slot's side are aware of the interest in Szoboszlai and are prepared fo open talks with him over a new deal. The midfielder is contracted to the club until 2028, but they are now looking to extend their relationship with better contractual terms, as well.

Szoboszlai has been in fine form this season, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists across all competitions. The former RB Leipzig man has occasionally featured at right-back this season, as well, underlining his importance to Slot's system at Liverpool.
