Spaniard tipped to make sensational move to Liverpool

According to fresh claims from Fichajes, Xabi Alonso is being touted as a potential successor to Arne Slot at Liverpool, despite Slot only months into his tenure at Anfield.

Fichajes reports that senior figures at Liverpool remain admirers of Alonso, whose remarkable work at Bayer Leverkusen last season elevated him to one of Europe’s most sought-after coaches. Alonso ultimately chose to make the move to Real Madrid, but that ended quicker than many people were epecting.

Slot, who arrived in the summer to replace Jürgen Klopp, has faced the expected challenges of succeeding one of the most transformative managers in Premier League history. While *LIVERPOOL*’s performances this season have been mixed, the club hierarchy has publicly backed Slot and remains committed to a long-term project centred around coaching stability and gradual squad evolution.

Nevertheless, Fichajes suggests that Liverpool’s admiration for Alonso has not diminished, and the club may consider a managerial change if results were to worsen significantly between now and the end of the campaign. The report stresses, however, that no formal move has been made and that Alonso remains fully focused on his current role.

Liverpool sources in England have previously insisted that Slot was hired with a multi-year plan in mind, and that the club intended to avoid short-term decision-making after such a major managerial transition.

Would Liverpool Really Sack Arne Slot So Early and Move for Alonso?

While Alonso’s connection to LIVERPOOL and his growing managerial reputation make this rumour an intriguing one, the likelihood of Liverpool dismissing Slot so soon appears very low.

The club’s ownership and football leadership value stability and long-term planning. After 8½ years under Klopp, Liverpool knew the following season would involve adaptation, tactical tweaks and uneven results. Slot was hired precisely because of his track record of systemic, patient team-building—not instant transformation.

Secondly, sacking a manager after a poor season would represent a major shift away from Liverpool’s established philosophy. There is no indication from within the club that Slot is under pressure or that his job is dependent on instant success.

While Alonso may one day return to Anfield as manager, the suggestion that Liverpool will move on from Slot this early appears speculative at best.
