Liverpool will be looking to take a significant stride toward securing Champions League soccer when it faces Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

The Reds have been plagued by inconsistency throughout the season, and head coach Arne Slot is well aware that they cannot afford to squander many more points in the battle for European soccer next campaign.

Despite a difficult spell toward the end of last year, Liverpool has suffered only two Premier League defeats in this calendar year. Liverpool's improvement in form has been bolstered by the return of Mohamed Salah from the Africa Cup of Nations. Without further ado, here's a round-up of the latest news from Anfield...

Mohamed Salah's future

Genuine concern arose among Liverpool supporters that Salah might never pull on a red shirt again following his post-match remarks after the Brighton game in December. Salah claimed he had been "thrown under the bus" by the club.

Having been dropped for a third successive match, Salah challenged Slot, claiming he had no "relationship" with the Liverpool boss. That uncomfortable episode now appears to have been resolved, with Liverpool's reliance on a fit and in-form Salah greater than ever.

During the seven matches Salah missed while representing Egypt at AFCON, Liverpool managed just 11 goals, four of which came against League One outfit Barnsley. Compare that to the 20 netted in the same number of fixtures since the 33-year-old's return.

Since coming back from the AFCON, Salah has contributed two goals and four assists across seven appearances. Interest from Saudi Arabia is expected to resurface this summer, as he once again enters the final 12 months of his contract on Merseyside.

Yet supporters need not be unduly concerned. Salah delivered arguably his finest-ever season for Liverpool in 2024-25, while also in the final year of his previous Anfield deal.

It would be foolhardy to wager against Salah returning to his very best before the campaign concludes, and seeing the man the Kop crowns the 'Egyptian King' donning the red shirt once more next season.

Thiago return

Liverpool legend Thiago is set to return to Anfield for a much-anticipated charity match, pitting several Reds heroes against a Borussia Dortmund legends side. The Spanish midfielder arrived at Liverpool from Bayern Munich in 2020.

During his four seasons on Merseyside, Thiago made 98 appearances and netted three goals. He was instrumental in the club's historic 2021-22 double success, helping Liverpool clinch both the FA Cup and League Cup.

The 34-year-old retired two years ago and is poised to feature in the charity fixture for the first time, scheduled for Saturday, March 28. Although his time at Liverpool was blighted by injury, his connection with the supporters remained unquestionable.

Upon leaving the club, Thiago said: "Thankful for the opportunity to have been a part of this city, this club and this community. The continuous support I have received since day one has been incredible: Anfield cheering, the Kop chanting... amazing, overwhelming."

Thiago will be joined by an impressive array of Liverpool greats, including Steven Gerrard, Sami Hyypia, Martin Skrtel, Vladimir Smicer, Natasha Dowie, and goalkeepers Jerzy Dudek and Pepe Reina.
