West Ham defender Konstantinos Mavropanos says scoring at the Emirates against his former club was the most memorable goal of his career.
The Greek international faced Arsenal for the first time since leaving the Gunners a couple of years ago, and he managed to get on the scoresheet. Speaking to West Ham’s official website about his favourite goals, Mavropanos said:
“I have to say the goal I scored for West Ham against Arsenal in December 2023. It was my first goal for the Club, in a big away win against my former team, so that has to be number one.”

West Ham beat Arsenal 2-0 away from home, with Tomas Soucek opening the scoring after 13 minutes, before Mavropanos scored with a header from a James Ward-Prowse corner after halftime.
Mavropanos is a key man for Nuno
It is fair to say that the Greek international has had his ups and downs since moving to the London Stadium in the summer of 2023.
Many have criticised Mavronpanos for his lack of pace, and his performances, especially under both Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter, left a lot to be desired, but Nuno Espirito Santo has been able to get more out of him.
Since the Portuguese coach’s appointment back in September, he has been almost ever-present in the starting eleven. He has played the full 90 minutes in the last seven league games.
West Ham have a new centre-back partnership
Mavropanos has been partnered with January arrival Axel Disasi for the last two league matches following the latter’s move from Chelsea, and they have struck up an understanding almost instantaneously.
They kept a clean sheet against Burnley in their first game together, and they almost secured another versus Manchester United before Benjamin Sesko’s late equaliser. They are set to be partnered together again when the Irons take on Bournemouth later today.
