Club requires"war chest"for marquee signings, Liverpool could help them by signing£61m teenager

Liverpool are one of several top clubs tracking Spurs defender Luka Vuškovic, but his massive market valuation could discourage them.

The 2026 summer transfer window is one that Liverpool are keeping a close eye on already. The Reds have already signed and completed a £60m deal for Jeremy Jacquet, but they are keen to add another centre-back to their ranks.

Joe Gomez is likely to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, which means the Merseysiders will be in even more need of a new centre-back, having not replaced Jarell Quansah.

The Englishman was allowed to leave to join Bayer Leverkusen in 2025 with the club confident of signing Marc Guehi. Crystal Palace pulled the plug on that transfer before he joined Manchester City in the January transfer window.

Liverpool and Manchester City are tracking Luka Vuškovi? but face €60m–€70m price tag

According to Sports Boom journalist Ekrem Konur, Liverpool must pay a fee in the region of €60m–€70m (£52m-£61m) to sign Luka Vuškovic in the summer transfer window.

?? I’m convinced Luka Vuškovic has the potential to be one of the best defenders in the world in the future.

He is so strong in the air and reads the game superbly.

The report claims that it is “well-documented that Manchester City and Liverpool have dispatched special representatives throughout the season to assess his adaptability to the English tempo.”

Spurs reportedly consider the 18-year-old to be the ‘centre-piece’ of their long-term plans and “intend to integrate the player directly into the first-team rotation during the Summer 2026 pre-season.”

The kicker for Spurs fans, however, is that Spurs reportedly require a “war chest” to compete in the upcoming transfer window and his sale could help fund more immediate plans. Vuškovic is currently on loan at Hamburg, but is under contract until 2030.

Liverpool set for a summer of big transfers

With Jacquet on his way to Liverpool already, and talk of at least one more centre-back signing, the Reds are likely to sanction another major summer of incomings.

There is a need for investment in both the midfield and the attack. Mohamed Salah could leave the club while rumours abound that Liverpool will sanction an exit for Cody Gakpo as well.

Even if they stay, Liverpool already need a left winger to compete with Gakpo.

After spending £460m last summer, the Anfield club is surely not likely to spend an equivalent sum but they will struggle to keep spending below £200m based on the squad’s objective needs.
