Kalvin Phillips will miss the mid-week visit of Coventry City after being shown a red card for a horror tackle in Sunday's Sheffield derby.
The on loan midfielder was tearful as he apologised to Sheffield United supporters following a lunge on Wednesday's Svante Ingelsson early in the second half at Bramall Lane today.
He threw himself into a challenge and caught Ingelsson's left knee with his studs. Referee Josh Smith had no hesitation as he sent him off. Phillips looked abashed as he raised his hands to the home stands.
Andy Hinchcliffe, co-commentating on Sky Sports, said: "It was pretty clear he knew he'd done something wrong. He just follows through with the challenge. He knows he's done something wrong.

"He plays the ball but that's not a defence, it's what he does after that, following through completely unnecessarily. It's a good call from the referee. That is horrible.
"It's an absolutely ridiculous decision. He's maybe trying to plead his case but he hasn't got one. It's a red card."
Phillips, aged 30, joined Sheffield United from Manchester City in January and this was his third appearance. He has been booked in both of his previous two.
Coventry head to South Yorkshire on Wednesday (7.45pm) hoping to extend their lead at the top of the Championship following yesterday's win at West Brom.
