Jack Wilshere was confronted after Luton Town's draw against Burton Albion

Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere had to be pulled away from furious supporters after his Luton Town side were held to a 1-1 draw against Burton Albion.

Wilshere, 34, was brought in as Luton's new boss in October, taking over from Matt Bloomfield, who was dismissed following a sluggish beginning to the campaign. The Hatters were positioned 11th on 16 points from 11 fixtures in League One when Wilshere took charge, and whilst they have climbed ONE spot since, he hasn't enhanced them as significantly as some fans would have anticipated.

Following a stalemate against relegation-battling Burton at Kenilworth Road on Saturday, supporters voiced their displeasure by shouting "you are embarrassing" towards Wilshere and his squad. Boos and jeers could be heard before Wilshere seemed to respond to an angry fan close to the tunnel.

However, before matters could worsen, Wilshere was hauled away by his own players down the tunnel and away from the supporters, who were unhappy as the Hatters squandered the chance to narrow the gap to the top six.

The supporter who captured footage on social media commented: "When you don't even win against 19th place at home, that's the frustrating thing. You can see Wilshere at the end, biting back. Need to sort it out. That's not good at all."

Nahki Wells did put Luton ahead in the 13th minute and they appeared set to secure a vital three points, until Burton levelled in added time through Fabio Tavares.

It meant the Hatters' winless streak extended to three games, following consecutive away losses at Cardiff City and Wigan Athletic. They now find themselves six points behind the League One play-off positions.

Speaking after his team's stalemate against Burton, Wilshere commented post-match: "First of all, I understand their (the fans') frustrations, I do. I've said that a lot, but right now we need them.

"It's not for a lack of the players trying, they're giving everything every single day. We work really, really hard to try and win games, to try and make supporters happy.

"I think you can see that the players are really lacking belief, they're lacking confidence. It's difficult then when in the first minute there's booing, but right now, everyone needs to be together, everyone needs to stick together.

"We have no right just to turn up and win games and expect that we can just do that as we can't, you can clearly see that at the moment that is not the case."

Luton, who were a Premier League club as recently as 2023/24, are next in action when they face Plymouth Argyle in the EFL Trophy quarter-final on Tuesday. They then look to get their promotion push back on track with a trip to bottom club Port Vale next Saturday.
