CaughtOffside: Milan ‘leading the race’ to sign Liverpool defender facing ‘crossroads’

Liverpool are evaluating the idea of cashing in on Joe Gomez this summer, and AC Milan are the frontrunners to land him.

Milan were heavily linked with a move for Gomez in the most recent summer transfer window, but Liverpool’s failure to land Marc Guehi saw the deal slip away. In January there was more speculation about a fresh attempt, but again nothing came of it.

Milan lead Gomez race

According to CaughtOffside, Gomez is ‘at a career crossroads’ ahead of this summer, with Milan ‘leading the race for his signature’. He will have just a year left on his contract at the end of this season, which makes Liverpool more likely to cash in.

A source told them: “Liverpool are keen to reshape their back line with younger, specialist profiles. Gomez is no longer seen as indispensable but rather as a valuable market asset. With his contract expiring in 2027, the summer of 2026 is viewed as the last major opportunity for the club to secure a significant transfer fee.”

West Ham and Brighton are keen on Gomez too, but the Hammers will find it very difficult to sign him if they are relegated to the Championship. Gomez’s salary demands are understood to be ‘in the region of £4.5m a year’, which is around €5.1m.
