Anthony Edwards to Jalen Johnson after the All-Star game:
“I can’t wait to come home… y’all got so many wings.”
Edwards is an Atlanta-born guard and attended Holy Spirit Preparatory School in the area, where he blossomed into a five-star prospect.
He remained in-state for college, earning All-SEC honors during his lone season at Georgia.
He was selected No.1 overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Edwards addressed the viral exchange between him and Johnson on Friday, and did little to refute the notion that he’s interested in someday joining the Hawks.
“I don’t think there’s nothing to clear up. It wasn’t too much, just a conversation,” said Edwards. “I been knowing Jalen Johnson for a long time. That’s my dog. We was just having a conversation. It’s really nothing to clear up. I’m happy where I’m at.”

Although Edwards said he is happy in Minnesota, he didn’t deny his conversation with Johnson about uniting in Atlanta.
The former No. 1 pick has played six seasons in Minnesota.
Minnesota had largely been a bottom-feeder in the West before his arrival, but the former Georgia standout has helped turn the franchise around.
Led by Edwards, the Timberwolves advanced to the Western Conference in back-to-back seasons (2024 and 2025) for the first time in franchise history.
Despite his relatively successful tenure in Minnesota, Edwards could have his sights set on forming a superstar tandem with Jalen Johnson in Atlanta.
Johnson, 24, is averaging 23.3 points, 10.7 rebounds and 8.2 assists this season.
He was named to the 2026 All-Star team, marking his first career All-Star selection.
Following a slow start to his career, which included a stint in the developmental G League, Johnson has evolved into the star the Hawks envisioned when they selected him 20th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft.
A potential team-up between Johnson and Edwards would form a star duo akin to Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, in terms of size and ability.
