Liverpool delivered a grim performance at the City Ground to beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 in extremely dramatic fashion.
Arne Slot will agree that Liverpool’s performance today was one of his side’s worst of the season. The Reds were completely outclassed by Forest all game, with the home side dominating the ball for the majority of the game.
Yet, Alexis Mac Allister scored twice late on to give his side a crucial win in the hunt for Champions League football.
The first of his goals was disallowed for handball, but minutes later, he pounced on a loose ball in the Nottingham Forest box to make it 1-0 in the 97th minute.
The goal that actually stood was mere millimetres from being offside and so the wait for the goal to be awarded was agonising, especially after Mac Allister had a goal chalked off just minutes before.

Liverpool are now level on points with Manchester United and Chelsea while the former still has to play, with Michael Carrick’s side travelling to Goodison Park to face Everton tomorrow night.
The win breathes fresh life into Liverpool’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League campaign.
Yet, it was one of the most alarming performances of the season. Slot needs to get his side performing to a higher standard otherwise Liverpool will be humiliated in both the FA Cup and Champions League later this season.
There have been minor improvements but despite Slot attempting to convince the press otherwise, Liverpool are no better than they were at the start of the season.
Slot argues that his side should be playing better now, but after admitting that Liverpool are now finally fit enough, the increase in form that he has been promising all season is not forthcoming.
Liverpool face West Ham and Wolves in their next two Premier League games which should provide a good chance for them to work on the standard of play.
Forest exposed Liverpool’s lack of fight and team cohesion, which is more alarming than the tactical issues. The team looks lost on the pitch and seem to figure things out on their own instead of relying on Slot for direction.
Big few months ahead…
