Alexis Mac Allister's first goal was ruled out by VAR
The Premier League have released a statement after Alexis Mac Allister's first goal was ruled out for handball.
The midfielder thought he had given Liverpool the lead during Sunday's trip to Nottingham Forest after bundling the ball home from close range. Mac Allister had blocked Ola Aina's clearance and the ball ended up ricocheting into the back of the net beyond Forest goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, sending the 3,000 Liverpool fans wild.
However, following a two-minute VAR check, it was viewed that the ball hit Mac Allister's elbow and the goal was going to be ruled out, much to the frustration of the Liverpool players.
Referee Anthony Taylor confirmed the goal was not going to stand in an announcement to the supporters inside The City Ground. "After review, the ball hits the arm of the goal scorer, Liverpool No. 10," Taylor said. "Therefore, it's an accidental handball by the goal scorer, so the final decision is a direct free kick."
Shortly after, the then released a statement, saying: " – 90’ VAR OVERTURN After VAR review, the referee overturned the original decision of goal to Liverpool."
