Report: Premier League club offered similar wages to Chelsea for'fantastic'attacker

There was a lot of interest in Chelsea striker Liam Delap last summer, including from Everton.

Following Ipswich Town’s relegation to the Championship, Delap was a man in demand. In the end, Chelsea were the club who managed to win the race for his signature.

Unfortunately for them, the 23-year-old has been unable to make much of an impact at Stamford Bridge. Since arriving, he has scored just one goal in 18 Premier League appearances.

A permanent exit for Delap is now not being ruled out despite him only joining the club last June.

Everton offered similar wages to Chelsea for Liam Delap

David Moyes confirmed that Everton wanted Delap before his move to Chelsea, and it looks like they were willing to offer the Englishman a good contract to convince him to join them.

According to TEAMtalk, Delap could have joined Everton on a deal worth around the same amount of money that he is currently earning at Chelsea.

As per Capology, Delap earns £100,000 a week, which is a lot of money. But he chose Chelsea, likely because of their place in the Champions League and manager at the time Enzo Maresca.

Delap had previously worked under Maresca at Manchester City, and the Italian was a big fan of his.

Before his move from Ipswich to Chelsea, Maresca hailed Delap as a “fantastic player” in one pre-match press conference via BBC Sport.

Liam Delap could join Everton in the summer

While Everton missed out on Delap, they could still end up landing him in the near future.

It is being claimed that Everton are still interested in signing Delap ahead of the summer transfer window.

Joao Pedro has been Chelsea’s first-choice centre-forward this season, while Emanuel Emegha will be joining the club from Strasbourg when the market reopens.

There is also talk about Chelsea having Julian Alvarez on their radar. That and the above is not good news for Delap.
