Will Alabama QB Ty Simpson throw at NFL combine?

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero on X, Ty Simpson will throw at next week’s NFL combine.

Simpson is considered to QB2 by many in the 2026 draft class as Oregon quarterback Dante Moore and Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss elected to return to college football. Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, the presumptive No. 1 overall pick, is not going to throw at the NFL combine.

On The Rich Eisen Show, Pelissero offered his take on where he thinks the Alabama quarterback will go in the 2026 NFL draft.

“I believe at the end of the day he will go in the 1st round,” he said. “Teams are gonna see things on tape that look a lot like what they do in NFL schemes. Ty’s gonna impress people through the course of this process.”

Simpson finished the 2025 season with 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns and five picks. According to Simpson, a few college teams offered him millions of dollars to stay in college and transfer to their school this offseason, but Simpson did not take any of the deals and officially entered the draft despite having massive offers sitting in his lap.

There is one thing to keep in mind when Simpson takes the field. Simpson is coming off of a grueling season at Alabama, a season where he said he played through a bulging disc in his back, bursitis in his elbow and had a reaction to some medication that inflamed the lining in his stomach. On top of that, he cracked a rib in the Rose Bowl, his final collegiate game.

This could be the healthiest version of Simpson that has been displayed in a while, and he’ll be watched closely by teams behind the Las Vegas Raiders in the draft order that needs a quarterback.

NFL Draft analysts all believe Simpson is the No. 2 quarterback in this year’s class, but a solid performance at the NFL combine could solidify him as a first-round pick.
