Gary Neville gives verdict on severity of Bukayo Saka injury for Arsenal

Mikel Arteta was forced to take off Arsenal star Bukayo Saka late on against Spurs.

Arsenal fought hard to get back to winning ways with an impressive 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening.

The Gunners moved on from dropped points against Wolves in midweek to open the gap at the top of the table to five points once again after Manchester City beat Newcastle United yesterday.

Viktor Gyokeres looked at his sparkling best for Arsenal with a brace against Spurs while Eberechi Eze once again enjoyed the taste of North London derby success with two goals to his name.

There was, however, a slight concern for Mikel Arteta. Arsenal starboy Bukayo Saka hit the turf in the 90th minute and needed medical attention after appearing to pick up an ankle problem.

Saka had been involved in a coming together with Xavi Simons as the Spurs midfielder inadvertently landed on the winger. The England international had to be taken off with Noni Madueke brought onto the field of play.

Arsenal fans will be desperate to hear that Saka has not picked up a serious problem. The Gunners host Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday before a tricky midweek trip to Brighton as the fixtures continue thick and fast.

Saka could be seen walking on the pitch after full-time in a potential boost to ease injury fears. Speaking on commentary, former Premier League defender Gary Neville also suggested that the coming together did not seem to be too worrying.

Neville suggested that the player may have removed his foot quick enough to avoid any serious problem. He said: “It’s a sore one. Simons lands on him, does he get it [the ankle] away in time? He seems to get it away. It doesn’t get locked in there. He’s been really good Saka.”

The worrying moment comes in the same week that Saka signed a contract extension with Arsenal, committing his future to the club until 2031. It’s expected that the player will become the club’s highest earner on £300,000 per week.
