Gyokeres and Eze doubles sink Tottenham as Arsenal restore five-point title advantage

Arsenal claimed a comfortable 4-1 North London derby victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday evening, thanks to braces from Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze.

The first chance of the game fell to Gyokeres and Arsenal in the seventh minute, as he cut in to find the bottom corner, but his curling effort flew just wide of the far post.

Moments later, the visitors went close to taking the lead in the 17th minute as Bukayo Saka’s corner was headed back across by Gyokeres for William Saliba to meet, but his header went just wide.

In the 32nd minute, the Gunners took the lead after Saka skipped past his marker to drill in a cross into the area for Eze to meet, who finished past Guglielmo Vicario.

Two minutes later, Randal Kolo Muani delivered an instant response for Spurs as he dispossessed Declan Rice just outside the area and made his way into the box, slotting home the equaliser.

Minutes later, Saka squandered a glorious opportunity to restore parity for the visitors as he was played in behind by Piero Hincapie, but the Englishman’s effort was denied by Vicario before Leandro Trossard’s deflected strike went just wide of the far post.

Shortly after the restart, Xavi Simons could’ve given the Lilywhites the lead inside the opening minute of the second half, but his effort from range was parried away by David Raya.

A minute later, Gyokeres fired Arsenal ahead as he was found by Jurriën Timber just outside the area, and he found the corner with a beautiful finish.

In the 54th minute, Kolo Muani thought he had drawn Spurs level after he met Conor Gallagher’s cross with a fine finish, but the goal was ruled out for a foul on Gabriel Magalhaes in the buildup.

Just past the hour mark, Eze doubled his tally and Arsenal’s lead after Saka saw an effort saved and he slammed home the loose ball for his second of the evening.

Moments later, Trossard sent his effort wide from range before Saka found the side-netting from close range as the Gunners searched for a fourth.

In the 84th minute, the host nearly pulled one back via Richarlison, as his flicked effort went through Raya’s legs, but the Spaniard was quick to claw it off the line.

Deep into stoppage time, Gyokeres completed the scoring after he was found by Martin Odegaard, who held off Archie Grey before finding the far corner with a curler.

The result sees Arsenal reclaim their five-point lead at the summit, and they face Chelsea next week on Sunday.
